Peter Parachnowisch has been working with his hands in one medium or another for close to 30 years. From a year long course in fine furniture building, to developing skills in log house construction and carpentry, he has now settled comfortably in exploring his artistic abilities in stone carving.

Fifteen years ago, a company from Bristol, England was invited to restore historic stone buildings in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A four-year apprenticeship program for Restoration Stone Masonry commenced and after obtaining journeyman status, Peter continued to work in the field throughout Atlantic Canada. The restoration projects taught him much about stone and how to work it. However, missing from the restoration stonework was the originality and creativity he craved. In 1997 he started carving stone using his experiences from the previous years as a springboard. Today, Peter's influences include the natural surroundings of his studio, traditional stone carving, and new ideas that may present themselves. Always keen for a new approach, his carvings range from simple graceful forms to more intricately carved pieces.
