From EWTN: Mary's Immaculate Conception by Father William G. Most In teaching that Mary was conceived immaculate, the Catholic Church teaches that from the very moment of her conception, the Blessed Virgin Mary was free from all stain of original sin. This simply means that from the beginning, she was in a state of grace, sharing in God's own life, and that she was free from the sinful inclinations which have beset human nature after the fall. Prayer for Peace in Syria God of Compassion, hear the cries of the people of Syria, bring healing to those suffering from the violence, bring comfort to those mourning the dead, strengthen Syria's neighbors in their care and welcome for refugees, convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms, and protect those committed to peace. God of Hope, inspire leaders to choose peace over violence and to seek reconciliation with enemies, inspire the Church around the world with compassion for the people of Syria, and give us hope for a future of peace built on justice for all. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace and Light of the World, Amen.
A Prayer for the Nation on Presidents' Day Almighty God, Who hast given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people, the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth. In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty O God our Creator, from your provident hand we have received our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God and your Son Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart readily to defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome – for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us – this great land will always be "one nation, under God,indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
