Nanci Griffith
Travelling through.....

''During the Christmas holidays of 1986 I organized a band of musicians to work this road of touring and to pass effortlessly through mine fields of studio sessions. They chose their name, THE BLUE MOON ORCHESTRA, from my third album, 'Once In A Very Blue Moon' Some of them I had recorded and toured with prior to 1986: and some simply wandered into the BLUE MOON ORCHESTRA through this revolving open door of the road.''

''Through these years, the sound has become its own with the talents of this band. The road and the years have flown by... my hair has grown blue to match the moon, the roses keep coming, and my writing has gone home to its roots."

Welcome. In these "Gulf Coast Highway Pages you will find some of my work, words and thoughts....." Image

"Blue Roses, Blue Moons, a Trip Back to Bountiful to a Dust Bowl Symphony and Winter Marquee.."

Over a span of more then 20 years, from the straits of Juan De fuca to the east of Portland, Maine, this Texas songwriter has been observing others and sketching her impressions of them -- in two novels (unpublished) and countless songs, such as ''Hometown Streets,'' ''Trouble in the Fields,'' ''Love at the Five and Dime'' and her signature tune, ''It's a Hard Life Wherever You Go.'' To know her -- to really get to be her pal -- is to realize that your exploits may someday wind up on a record for the whole world to hear.

"and we can be anywhere and never leave home
with your hand to hold ... we are two for the road
two of a kind heart ... two for the road"

"Dance a little closer to me, dance a little closer now
Dance a little closer tonight
Dance a little closer to me, 'cause it's closing time
And love's on sale tonight at this five and dime"
