Competencies:

  • define the role of the nonprofit board in organizational fundraising, including the respective roles of a fundraising committee and individual board members
  • explain how to recruit and orient appropriate board members to the organization
  • develop a plan for training and supporting board members in fundraising
  • describe the role of the board in ensuring the organization complies with all applicable local, state and national laws regulating fundraising

    Demonstration of Competencies:

  • develop a plan for a selected nonprofit organization or NGO for recruiting, orienting, training, and supporting board members, with special attention to their fundraising responsibilities (three-to-five pages).
    OR
  • interview a nonprofit board member about their role in fundraising; you should ask how they define their responsibilities, how the board structures and organizes its fundraising efforts, and how its efforts are evaluated. If you can, attend a board meeting discussing fundraising. Report the interview and/or discussion in a three-to-five-page paper.
    AND, with either assignment,
  • find and summarize one local, state or national law regulating fundraising, other than one listed in the Seltzer book (one page or less).
    AND
  • complete an online exam for this module.
