| New
Gray Whale edition.
Carved
from native Vermont basswood, this whale was hand
shaped and hand painted with its own unique color
pattern and antique patina finish. Signed and dated. |
|
| Third
edition of the Moby Dick Series. This is a limited
edition of 100 carvings, each signed numbered and
dated. I call this my perspective design. |
|
The
first new whale plaque in several years! The
Minke! Smallest
of the balleen whales. It can reach a length
of 35 feet and has interesting and striking
markings.

|
Working
in the distinguished tradition of Clark Voorhees,
my mentor, I've been sculpting wooden cetaceans
with exacting lifelike detail for decades.
|
|
| Right
whales, humpbacks, and sperm whales form the heart
of my work. |
|
For
private whale fanciers, the smaller (32")
plaques may be more collectible.
|
|
These
profiles are well observed whales too, but
styled in the ornamental manner of New England
decoys and weather vanes. |

ORDER Sperm
Whale - Tail Back |
Using
native Vermont timbers, my hand-carving reveals
my own playful imagination as well as the sly
humor folk art has always brought to icons |

Whale - Tail down

As
with the larger naturalistic sculptures, each
whale sports an individual personality. These
traditional sculptures are painted with historic
materials. |
|
Seven
applications of pigment achieve subtle patinas
for a finish of exquisite antiquing. |
|
Visitors
are welcome to the Weston, Vermont studio where,
on any given day you may see a humpback whale
surfacing from bass-wood shavings or a sperm
whale getting his teeth stained grey. |
|
Each species will have a limited edition and new
species may be introduced from time to time.

ORDER Bowhead |
At
around $750 the plaques are affordable signed
