If you have a hydrometer or a voltmeter you can accurately check the charge level of your battery from the following chart.

Batteries today can last 7 years or more, if they are maintained in good condition. This means keeping them in a well charged state, 85% charge or better. Keeping the terminals and top surface around the terminals clean will go a long way towards keeping that state of charge high. A good quality battery charger is a sensible investment for anyone intending to rely on an automobile. Let's see, does that leave out anyone?
