time. Dogs still sleep in the center of Main Street on a hot summer day.

A Vibrant CommunitySaxtons River citizens take pride in their village, involving themselves in community as well as business activities.Saxtons River is the home of Vermont Academy an independent secondary boarding and day school. There are many active non- profit organizations busy in the village, foremost among them is the nationally renowned Saxtons River Playhouse. It is one of few remaining barn playhouses. The Saxtons River Historical Society Museum is open for visitors, free of charge. Also there is Main Street Arts, The Jelly Bean Tree and Saxtons River Pirates (semipro baseball club). Small family-owned businesses keep the village vibrant: restaurants, lodging, stores and services. |

Saxtons River 4th of JulyJuly 4th celebrated by all residents of the village and by visitors from far and wide. The day is highlighted by a parade, street performances, a chicken barbecue, volunteer firefighter water polo, a community dance and fireworks. Main Street is lined with carnival games and street vendors selling every kind of food imaginable. The 4th of July Committee spends the greater part of a year just preparing for the event.
