GIZMO'S GOSSIP 

Hi again everyone.  Gizmo here.
Unlike us dogs,  cats around here seem to come and go.  I really  don't think it has to do with either Utah or me (though certainly  Utah gives any cat enough reason to skidaddle outta here).   I think  rather it's the country and some of the predators who may wander  through or fly by (such as owls).  In August both Boston and Missie  simply vanished (though Missie did reappear two weeks later).

All of which leads me to our newest cat Sherlock who Mom and Dad found at the shelter to replace Boston. Grey and White and about 4-6 months old, he is very sweet and therein lies the problem. They say most guys (even me) have a feminine side. Sherlock has three of them which is leading to a real identity crisis. Mom and Dad have taken to calling him "Shirley" and often refer to her as a she. SEE. NOW EVEN I'M DOING IT. Shirley's a he not a she !! GGrrr ! It's becoming a real problem and I don't know how to make them stop it. They may think it's funny, but I'm the one under the tables and in the halls at night who has to deal with it.

Maple Sweet Potatoes and Butter Pecans

Just one of the dishes we'll be serving at the Inn for our Thanksgiving Special Dinner. Enjoy!

 
6 lbs (about 6) sweet potatoes
2 ripe bananas, skins on
2 oz (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
2 Tbs ground cinnamon
2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp salt
1 lb pecans
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 Tbs salt
2 Tbs brown sugar

1.

Preheat oven to 425 F. Pierce the sweet potatoes with a fork and bake until tender, about 1 hour. Roast the bananas, with the skins on, for the last 15 minutes of cooking time. When cool enough to handle, peel the potatoes and bananas, and transfer to a food processor. Pulse until the potatoes are chunky.

1.	Add the butter and maple syrup, puree until smooth. Add the cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and salt; puree to combine. Transfer to a shallow baking pan and smooth out the surface with a spatula.

In a skillet, cook the pecans in butter over low heat and sprinkle with salt. Saute until well-coated, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes. Transfer the pecans to paper towels to drain. Arrange pecans on top of puree and sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake at 300 degrees F until heated through, about 20 minutes. Yield: 6 to 8
