GIZMO'S GOSSIP  Gizmo's Gossip

Hi again everyone.  Gizmo here.
Spring cleaning - clean up, paint up and fix up. We've been doing a bit of that. The dining room area has been freshened, as has the entire entrance area to the house and the laundry room off the dining room which on occasion acts as the "extra" bathroom when necessary. A new hot tub has been ordered and will now be placed directly in front of the guest sunroom rather than at the end of the deck. New fencing for the pool is also on order as is replacement siding for the guest areas of the structure. All of this I have overheard when mom and dad have been having dinner. Does it never end ?

One thing not yet addressed is the condition of my own fur. Have they not noticed ? Mud season is over - as is my white fur. Several times in the last few weeks I have been invited to accompany guests on their walks up our mountain. What better way to celebrate my return than to roll in the mud along the side of the beaver pond. Nothing could be finer ! A visit to the groomer is long overdue. Since I can't talk, perhaps I'll jump on the bed, cuddle close and let them have a whiff.

All-American Breakfast Apple PieAll-American Apple Pie

Apple pie for breakfast? You bet! This apple pie recipe combines wholesome breakfast oats with fresh apples and low-fat yogurt or applesauce for either a healthy vegan or vegetarian breakfast.

For the Crust:
1-1/4 cups Grape Nuts cereal
1/8 cup maple syrup

For the Filling:
5 apples, sliced about 1/4 inch thick
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon

For the topping:
1/2 cups rolled oats
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 tablespoons plain low-fat yogurt (or use applesauce instead)

1. .Preheat oven to 425. Mix together Grape Nuts and maple syrup in a small bowl, then spread the mixture across the bottom and up the sides of a 9" round baking dish to form the pie crust. Mix the filling ingredients together in a medium bowl, then pour onto the piecrust. Combine the dry ingredients for the crumb topping in a medium bowl, then blend in the yogurt - with your fingers! - until the mixture becomes crumbly. Drop crumbs over the pie, covering the top evenly. Bake for 10 minutes at 425, then reduce heat to 350F and continue baking 35-40 minutes longer..

The best pet photo is.....!!

The results are in for the Pet Photo Contest. We would like to thank everyone who participated by either submitting a photo or voting. There were so many wonderful photos and readers admitted it was difficult to decide. It was fun, pets had their fifteen minutes of fame and we hope to continue next year with a 2nd Annual Pet Photo Contest. So for those who didn't make the cut...there's always next year.
