GIZMO'S GOSSIP

Hi again everyone. Gizmo here.
Almost everyday, I'm struck by the comments I hear from guests about our cat Tundra. You see, she's a bit on the large side, which is why we refer to her as "Two Ton Tundra". Those guests are in awe of her size. One guest even mistook her for a beanbag chair.

I do think it's a bit unfair. Yes, she does have more chins than lives and yes, her gut does keep our hardwood floors freshly buffed, but saying that's it's no longer safe to lift her without a spotter is going a little far.

It is true that Rosanne fits through her kitty door without the aid of lubricants and that Larry King has tried to kiss her full on the lips. It is however a rumor that she no longer cleans herself unless coated in Cheese Whiz and there is no truth at all to the rumor that she only catches mice that get trapped in her gravitational pull.

Fresh Strawberry Coffee Cake

A different spin on the traditional coffee cake. Try substituting blueberries, apples or cherries.

2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp cinnamon 2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1/4 cup margarine, or butter melted
3 cups strawberries, sliced.

Crumble Topping

1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup margarine or butter, cold

Preparation:
1. To Make Crumble Topping: Sift sugar and flour together in a large bowl. Place the margarine in the center of the bowl and sprinkle a little of the sugar and flour mixture over it. Place all 10 fingers on the stick and start crumbling it by making cat-kneading gestures with your fingers so the margarine turns into little pea sized bits. Keep crumbling until the stick is completely whittled down.

2. Sift the first four ingredients together in a bowl and set aside

3. Whisk the milk, eggs, vanilla, and melted margarine together in a bowl.

4. Add the mix of wet ingredients to the bowl of dry ingredients.

5. Beat together with a handheld mixer until well incorporated. Pour into a pre-greased 13×9 pan. Arrange the sliced strawberries on top of the batter. Sprinkle the crumble toppings.
6. Bake at 350F for 35-45 minutes.

Eden Dog Carting...Sledding.

Hi,
Every year for Father's Day the family plans a surprise experience or adventure gift. We figure Dad's just about done with the neckties. Two years in a row he flew a plane, and one year we hiked at Ausable Chasm. For Brad half the fun is guessing the planned event so he spends every waking moment trying to trip us up. Well, this year we took him dog carting the summer equivalent of dog sledding.

We had a blast!! The owner Jim Blair introduced us to the dogs and the sport of dog sledding on wheels. We harnessed our own team and set out on the trails with eight dogs leading the way.

The dogs are lovable, huggable and live to run. They are free-range dogs whose year-round well-being and quality of life is their passion. They are located on 75 acres in the midst of 3000 acres of protected Vermont wilderness. Upon our return home the smells on our clothes drove Gizmo and Utah into a jealous frenzy.
