NEWSLETTER :January 2015 Online Edition 81

It's a perfect time to get away and enjoy the beauty of Vermont winters because we have made it SUCH A DEAL. We have complimentary snowshoes to explore our groomed trails while a warm fire and year round hot tub await your return.
For many years, Canadians living near the border have enjoyed trips to the U.S. for bargain shopping on the numerous items which are so expensive in the Provinces. Many have stayed here as we are centrally located between Burlington (Church Street), Essex (Essex Town Outlets) , St. Albans (Walmart) and Williston (numerous box stores).

Are you looking for a USA address to use for your online purchases?
To induce more visitors, we now accept the Loonie at par (between Nov 1 and April 30), have a midweek half price sale until April 30 and will, year round, also
receive your online purchases at no charge when you stay with us. SO, get that Amazon bargain and send the package here and also save on shipping. Then we’ll have it in your room for you when you arrive. Like us on our Facebook page "CANADIAN AT PAR" for updates with more U.S. retailers.

Vermont offers a unique shopping experience with local products, outlet stores, downtown Church Street, University Mall, Costco Warehouse and many more.

Visit the newly opened L.L. Bean Store on Church Street.

See where others suggest shopping.

NOTE: Vermont sales tax is only 6% and does not apply to clothing. Our understanding is that Canadians may return home after 24 hours with a $ 200 exemption on purchases. After 48 hours it rises to $ 800.00. To be sure, confirm for yourselves.

You will need to mention this offer though for the special to apply.

Winter Midweek Special ( December 6th, 2014 - April 30, 2015)

Canadian Loonie

It is no secret that the best skiing is during the week - fewer people, shorter waits, better powder. It is also no secret that inns and lodging establishments find it challenging to fill their rooms during the week in the off-season. (It's also no secret that everyone is edgy about the economy).

To encourage all of you to make use of weekdays during the winter, we're making the following offer. Come stay with us and to the extent that any or all of your stay includes two weekday nights, (excludes Friday and Saturday), we'll cut the cost of those weekday nights in half.

That's right, a 50% discount. So, for example, if you stay Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, those first two nights will be at half price while Friday will be at the regular rate. Or, if you stay Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the cost of the entire stay is cut in half. Such a deal. No other discount applies. (Excludes Fridays, Saturdays and holidays which occur on a midweek day)

Finally, now that our groomed trails are part of the Vermont Snowmobile Trail system and are ideal for both cross country skiing and snowshoeing, the winter special should be even more attractive.

You will need to mention this offer though for the special to apply.

Pet Peeves

Editors note:  For many years we allowed one of our dogs to write a monthly column.  First there was “Isham’s Corner” and then “Gizmo’s Gossip”.    Jealousies with the other pets convinced us to give everyone a chance on a rotating basis.  Thus,

This is Elmo, pen in hand and paw on keys, ready for another vent.

Anyone who has been here, knows that Grover and myself love to be outside. We can’t wait for Dad to open the door, and take us to play. I am an Olympic level Frisbee chaser while Grover will catch a ball in his mouth, no matter how high dad throws it. That’s all fine and good, so long as we can see the lawn.
Things change however when the yard turns white. Before releasing us, Dad puts on his boots, pulls out a heavy jacket, dons his Canadian lumberjack hat, pulls on his gloves and opens the door. HELLO ? What about US. Our paws are bare, our ears exposed and our fur simply isn’t intended for below zero weather. Is it any wonder that Mom notices how we limp and lick our toes upon our return ? Dad doesn’t approve of boots and sweaters for us - “What did they wear in the wild ?” is what I’ve heard HIM say. Wild ? Wild West ? Wild jungle ? Where’s Bernie Sanders when we need him ?
Setting that aside however, a white world changes the game. Grover better keep a careful eye on that ball, because it disappears as soon as it falls. Sure is fun watching him bury his nose in the snow, looking and smelling for the missing item. Chasing the Frisbee is about the same, other than the fact, that it keeps going, even under the snow, so knowing where it sunk is not quite enough.
Never thought of these things - did ya ?
Love  ELMO, :))
