Subject: Re: Windows 95 Connection

This is what we have right now on Win95. Hopefully it helps.

Connecting with Win 95 is a breeze. :) Just make sure you have a
couple of hours to spare. (just kidding)

Okay, 1st step is to go into Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove
Programs>Windows Setup (tab)>Communications (highlight)>Details. Got that? :}
Make sure "Dial Up Networking" is checked. (if it isn't, then put a check in
it.)

Next step.
Go into Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network>Add. It asks what kind of
Network component to install. You want to select "Adapter", then click
"Add". Scroll down (on the left side) to "Microsoft", on the right should be
"dial up adapter" Click on OK
Go back into Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network>Add. Select "Protocol" and
click on Add. Click on "Microsoft" (on the left) and then (on the right)
click on TCP/IP. Click on OK.

Here are steps for seting up a dynamic PPP connection to Sovernet.

Step 1:

In Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup, Communications,
Details:
Dial up Networking, Hyper Terminal, and Phone Dialer is checked.
(Direct Cable Connection is UNchecked)

Step 2:

In Control Panel, Network, Configuration:
Client for Microsoft Networks, Client for NetWare Networks, Dial-Up
Adapter, IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol, NetBEUI, and TCP/IP are
installed.
Primary Network Logon says Windows Logon

Step 3:

Control Panel, Network, Configuration, TCP/IP, Properties:
IP Address = Obtain an IP automatically
WINS Config = Disable WINS Res. -- Use DHCP is UNchecked
Gateway = 0.0.0.0
Bindings = Client for Microsoft Networks is checked
Advanced = None
DNS Config = Enable DNS;
Host = Whatever (TCW)?
Domain = sover.net;
DNS Server Search Order = 204.71.16.10;
Domain Suffix Search Order = sover.net

In Control Panel, Network, Configuration, Dial-Up Adapter, Properties;
Driver Type = Enhanced mode... (only option NOT greyed out)
Bindings = IPX/SPX-compat; NetBEUI, and TCP/IP are all checked.
Advanced = Record a log file = No; Use IPX header compression = Yes.

Step 4:

Make new connection. I called it "Sovernet". In Select a modem,
Configure;
General, Port = Com1, Max Speed = 19,200   <-- use for 14.4 modem,
(use 115,200 for 28.8 modem)
Connection, 8 None 1, Wait for dial tone is checked, Cancel the call
(60 secs) is checked, Disconnect is UNchecked
Options, Nothing is checked except Display modem status.
Next:
Area code = 802, Telephone = 463-2112 (or whatever your local number
is)
Country code = USA(1).
Next:
You have successfully...
"Sovernet" is in the box.
Finish.
"Sovernet" shows up as an Icon in the Dial-Up Networking folder.

For Step 5, right click the "Sovernet" Icon in the Dial-Up Networking
folder, and select Properties.

Step 5:
In Server Type,
Type of Dial-Up Server =  PPP:Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet
Log on to network is UNchecked
Enable Software compression is checked.
Require Encrypted password is UNchecked.

Only TCP/IP is checked in allowed network protocols
in TCP/IP Settings,
Server assigned IP address is checked
Server assigned name server addresses is checked
Use IP header compression is checked
Use default gateway on remote network is checked

Step 6:

In Dial Up Networking folder, Options, Settings
General,
Redial is checked
Before giving up retry = 10
Between tries wait 45 secs
Prompt to use Dial-Up Networking is checked.

Step 7:

That should do it. Double click on "Sovernet"
Username = Pyourusername
Password = xxxxxxxx
I've clicked Save Password.
Click on Connect.
Modem should dial
Verifying Password
Logging onto Network
Connected...
