Connecting to SoVerNet with Windows95 [Adapted from "Connecting to AAI with Windows95" by andre@aa.net] Step ONE: Install and configure tcp-ip 1. Click on Start, choose Settings -> Control Panel 2. Double click on Network If you already have TCP-IP and a Dialup Adapter installed, skip to Step TWO. 3. Choose Add->Adapter 4. Choose Microsoft, under Manufacturers, and Dialup Adapter under Network adapters, click OK 5. Click Protocol in the "Select Network Component Type" page 6. Choose Microsoft under Manufacturers and TCP/IP under Protocols, click OK 7. Double click on TCP/IP (to set TCP/IP properties) 8. Click on "DNS Configuration", Choose Enable DNS Set Host to your user name Set Domain to sover.net Enter 204.71.16.10 in DNS Server Search Order, and click Add 9. Click OK (in network page in the control panel). 10. Choose Yes, when the system prompts you to restart the system. Step TWO: Setup Dialup connection 1. Double click on "My Computer" 2. Double click on "Dial-up Networking" If you do not have a "Dial-up Networking" Icon, you must install the Dialup Networking portion of Windows 95 before you can proceed any further. Please consult your documentation on how to add and remove programs from Windows 95. 3. Double click on "Make New Connection" 4. Name it SoVerNet, then click next. 5. Enter the area code and dialup number for your exchange (from the "Welcome Letter"). 6. Click next, then click finish. 7. Now you have a new icon named "SoVerNet". 8. Click right mouse button on that icon, choose Properties. 9. Click on "Server Type" a. Make sure type of Dial-up Server type is PPP:.... b. In Advanced Options, c. Remove check box from "Log on to network" d. Remove check boxes from "NetBEUI" e. Only TCP/IP needs to have a checked box 10. Click on TCP/IP Settings. a. Click on Specify name server addresses. b. Primary DNS: Enter 204.71.16.10 c. Secondary DNS: Enter 204.71.16.11 11. Click OK, Click OK, Click OK. Step THREE: Connecting to SoVerNet 1. Double click on the connection icon you have just created. 2. Enter your username and password. Your username is all one word, lower case, with no spaces. Your password will not show, so type it very carefully. Your password must be entered exactly as it was assigned to you. In particular, the case of the letters is important. 3. Click on connect. If you have entered the information correctly, your modem will dial and you will be promptly connected. If you have made any mistakes, windows will give you an error message. In particular, if your username or password are incorrect you will receive an error message from windows. Correct the errors and try it again.
